Simmons’ CONTAMINANT-FREE yard hydrant is engineered to be fully self-contained and easily serviced in the field. It permits water flow all year round, even in freezing weather, yet there is no ground contamination nor contamination of the water supply. This hydrant drains back in a stainless steel canister rather than out a weep hole and into a gravel field.
HOW DOES IT FUNCTION?
Our CONTAMINANT-FREE hydrant was created by combining a nozzle-venturi adapter and stainless steel canister with Simmons’ best-selling, dependable CLASSIC design. When the hydrant is opened, water flowing through the nozzle creates a vacuum which empties the canister through the hose bibb. Because the hydrant drains into a sealed canister and not info the ground through a drain outlet, the water never comes in contact with the soil. This system conserves water and avoids possible contamination of your water supply.
When the hydrant is closed, the plunger seals against the valve seat and stops the flow of water. Any water remaining in the riser pipe drains back into the stainless steel canister, which is buried below the frost line to prevent freezing.
HOW DO I FULLY PURGE THE CONTAMINANT-FREE HYDRANT?
When the Simmons’ CONTAMINANT-FREE yard hydrant is used in a manner that creates back pressure, it prevents the nozzle-venturi adapter from creating a vacuum that allows the cannister to be emptied. Connecting to recreational vehicles or attaching hoses are two common examples of usage that prevent the canister from being emptied automatically. If the hydrant is being used in these of comparable ways during freezing temperatures, the hydrant MUST be purged manually to preserve functionality and prevent freezing.
To manually purge this hydrant, simply remove all attachments and open the hydrant fully for at least 30 seconds, or until aerated water flows from the hose adapter. Contact our Customer Service department at 800-241-1935 with any questions, and they will be glad to assist you.
